Asthma Symptoms You Should Not Ignore

By Dr. Sourabh Pandey · 20 January 2026 · 4 min read

Asthma is a long-term condition in which the airways become inflamed and narrow in response to triggers. Symptoms often come and go, which is why many people delay seeking help.

Symptoms worth acting on

A whistling or wheezing sound while breathing, cough that is worse at night or in the early morning, chest tightness, and breathlessness during exercise or after exposure to dust, smoke or cold air.

Why early control matters

Untreated airway inflammation can lead to more frequent attacks and reduced lung capacity over time. Good control usually means few or no daytime symptoms, undisturbed sleep and normal activity levels.

Getting the basics right

Correct inhaler technique, regular use of preventer medication as prescribed, and awareness of personal triggers make a substantial difference. Review with your doctor if you need reliever medication more than twice a week.
